27 Jul Ready to Raze Hell!

It's all too easy to get into a rut in anything that you do, be it in work, relationships, hobbies, and ministry. You'll have to admit that you've either been in a rut in the past or may be in one right now. I know because I've been there and got and worn the t-shirt. When you are in this rut mentality and/or spiritually, you just go through the motions with little effort and little concern about the ramifications of your actions or lack of actions. Consequently, nothing of value is accomplished. Here's a quick reminder to get you back on course for ministry. I will declare with no reservation, it is no coincidence that you are where you are in ministry. You have been STRATEGICALLY ...

20 Jul Is Being Filled with the Holy Spirit REALLY a Priority?

Whether we will admit this to be true or not, the facts are the facts. In many of our Pentecostal/charismatic churches (and the various ministries within the churches), few of the people are Spirit-baptized. I would venture to say that extremely few boys and girls in our Sunday school classes and children's churches have been given the opportunity to be filled with the Spirit. The children in our children's churches and youth in our student ministries that are Spirit-baptized generally are filled with the Spirit at a Kid's/Youth Camp and then return back home never to hear of the Holy Spirit until the next Summer's retreat or camp. Few adults in our Sunday morning auditoriums are Spirit-baptized and are ever given the opportunity to receive the promise of the Father. Have you ever considered how this current trend runs contrary to what we see in the Book of Acts? Consider our scriptural prototype ...

13 Jul Happy One-Year Anniversary to Us!

It was one year ago today that Vickie and I took the biggest step of faith in our marriage and ministry. On July 13th, 2014, I preached my final message at Trinity Church International, we hugged literally hundreds of people, shed a ton of tears as we said emotion-packed goodbyes, and then walked out of Trinity's doors to step out into this new, God-ordained season of ministry. It was a day that we will never forget and will always treasure. Here is the twelve month update. Has the transition been easy? Do you want spiritualees or honesty? (To hear some preachers talk, you'd think that they wake up every morning with their hair perfectly combed, have minty fresh breath, and their face is either cleanly shaven or "make-up-ized".) Honestly, walking into this new season has been a gigantic, more-than-I-could-have-ever-imagined venture of faith. It's been a challenge. I remember one particular Saturday morning when I felt overwhelmed by intense pressures and the weight of unanswered questions. My desperation gave me the nerve to boldly complain to the Holy Spirit. I had the gumption to tell Him that I wish that I'd never have left the comforts and security of being a children's pastor at a great church. But, He trumped my boldness. After listening to my complaints, He said several clear directives to me and concluded with, "If you will walk out this transition, you will see every thing that I have promised." Suddenly, my complaints disappeared. The promise was too great to be nullified by my present fears, uncertainties, and discomforts. Have those fears returned from time to time? Yes. But, I know that I heard the Holy Spirit and remind myself of His promise. The promised land is greater than the price of the transition. What has happened in the last twelve months? We have been in some incredible churches in Texas and Florida and ministered alongside some wonderful pastors. God has so blessed our Saturday morning Ignite & Unite Conferences. I believe that we are sharing needed, strategic insights in these conferences with children's/student ministry leaders to work together with the Holy Spirit to maximize their ministry in these last days. Saying that we've seen hundreds of people baptized in the Holy Spirit in our Sunday services would be no exaggeration. God continues to increase our influence through the weekly blog. In looking at Google Analytics a few minutes ago, I just learned that in the last 30 days, people from 80 nations have read at least one of my blog postings. The top ten countries hitting on the blog are (in descending order) the United States, China, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Germany, United Kingdom, Canada, India, and Italy. A little further down on the list are the countries of Russia, Israel, Indonesia, and Netherlands. All that I can say is WOW! I am also writing two books, one that I'd love to have published and available for a conference in September and the other by November. Vickie and I continue to pray that the right doors will open in churches and conferences. Last year, I clearly heard the Holy Spirit say, "The nation is waiting on you. The nations (plural) are waiting." So, we know that He is at work doing what only He can do! Thank you for standing with us. I know that many of you pray for us. Your prayers are felt and so, so appreciated. Others of you support us financially either occasionally or on a monthly basis. Your financial support is the sustaining factor in our ministry. During this transition time, the number of weekends without meetings exceeds the number of weekends that we are ministering. We are keenly aware that it will take time for pastors and leaders to learn of what we are doing and this means that during this time there might be several weeks in a row without ministry. And, no ministry means no financial income for those weeks. But, with God as our source, people just like you are filling in the gaps through a one-time or monthly financial gift. To help us financially, your tax-deductible gift can be given at www.billyburns.com/donate. After one year, here is our resolve. Our dear friend Pat Holland said it best. "Billy and Vickie, you haven't stepped out on thin air. You've stepped out on a promise." Twelve months are behind us. Our best days and the days of seeing the promise fulfilled are ahead of us because "Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." 1 Thessalonians 5:24. The best is truly yet to come!...

06 Jul It’s Time to Ignite a Revolution!

A couple of weeks ago, I had the incredible privilege of officiating the wedding ceremony of our youngest son Aaron and his beautiful bride Kaity. It was a service that I will never forget. Vickie and I are so blessed. All three of our sons have married beautiful, godly ladies. It's every parent's dream come true!!! As I was preparing for the wedding, I recognized how weddings have changed over the years. One of the most noticeable changes is the absence of the phrase, "if there is anyone here who objects to this marriage, let them speak now or forever hold their peace." Do you remember hearing those words in a wedding? I honestly believe that it's a thing of the past. Back in the day, when the minister would say those words there would always be a dead silence and everyone would wait to see if there was an objection. Thankfully, everyone would be silent and, in doing so, they would be giving their blessing to what was going on. The reason that this blog exists and the reason that Vickie and I left the security of being the children's pastor at a great church in South Florida to travel full time and conduct our Ignite & Unite Conferences is to stir children and youth ministry leaders like you to speak up and loudly, passionately voice your objection to Spirit-less, cold, lifeless, powerless children's ministries and student ministries that are producing ineffective, anemic, timid children and youth across our land. We've been silent for far too long. Things are NOT okay. We object to what the future will hold if we continue to stand back in silence. Passivity and turning our heads the other way must be a thing of the past. It's time for revolutionists like you to start clearing their throats and begin to unashamedly, boldly use their voices to declare that WE OBJECT. ENOUGH. NO MORE. In this revolution, we will settle for nothing less than having children's/student ministries where the Holy Ghost is allowed to demonstrate His presence and power. TODAY is the day of the Holy Ghost. Nothing less will change a generation of children and nothing less will satisfy our passion. Sunday school teacher, speak up. Children's church leader/worker unwaveringly use your voice. Mid-week Bible club teacher, you can't be passive. Student ministry leader/worker, don't be denied. SPEAK UP. It's time to speak or forever hold your peace. Your voice must be heard in the heavenlies. It will launch the Holy Ghost into action. Hell needs hear your bold declarations. It will cause Satan's imps to cease and desist. Do me three favors. First, print and distribute this blog posting to those working alongside of you in your ministry. Second, forward this blog posting to all those working in children's/student ministries around the world. And last, please send a note to billy@billyburns.com and let me know that you are a Holy Ghost revolutionist....
