Are You Discouraged?
Here's an honest confession ... some things that I write about in my blog postings are so common knowledge that I'm almost embarrassed to send it out to you. I'm sure that at one time or another you may have read a post and thought, "He wrote that? Is he for real? That's not anything new." But, to be honest, it's those things that I already "knew" that I often need the Holy Spirit to remind me about. It's His gentle reminder to hear and then respond as though I've never heard it before. In other words, He is wanting me to hear it again for the first time, to make the "knew" new. Here is one...
Celebrate With Us!
Two years ago today, July 13, 2014, Vickie and I stepped out by faith to obey the call of God to be a part of launching a move of God's Spirit across our land and around the world. It was our final day of being the children's pastors at Trinity Church International. It was a blessed 25 years there. Today on this anniversary, we celebrate God's faithfulness. To quote our dear friend Pat Holland, "You didn't step out on thin air. You stepped out on a promise." And, God has demonstrated this over and over again. So, together, two years after this monumental launch, Vickie and I continue to...
He Hasn’t Changed
I'll admit up front that this blog post may seem strange. But, without question, I know that I am writing exactly what I heard the Holy Spirit tell me to write earlier this morning. I don't have to know the reasons for His direction. My job is just to obey. And so, here it is ... Nursery worker ... "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever." Sunday school teacher ... "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever." Children's church worker/leader ... "Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever." Mid-week Bible club worker/leader ... "Jesus Christ, the same...
Help For Life’s Blind Spots
I recently read about a man that was standing in his restroom about to step upon the bathroom scales when his wife walked in on him. The story told that as he stepped onto the scales, the man inhaled a gigantic mouthful of air and held his breath. This confused his watching wife and caused her to ask, "Honey, why did you inhale? You know that inhaling won't make you weigh any less." To that he replied, "I know that. I didn't inhale to try to reduce my weight. I inhaled so that I could suck in my stomach so that I could see the numbers on the scales and know just how much that I weigh."...
God’s Favorite Word
Let me let you in on my new favorite word. It is the word "and". Here's why ... "For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is to and for you and your children, and to and for all that are far away, [even] to and for as many as the Lord our God invites and bids to come to Himself." Acts 2:39 (The Amplified Bible) Evidently, it is also God's favorite word, especially in connection with fulfilling His promise concerning the pouring out of His Holy Spirit. Did you notice how many times that God uses this word in this promise? To use computer jargon, in giving this promise, it is evident that...
