Why Children’s Ministry?
Vickie and I are days away from celebrating our 35th anniversary of being in children's ministry. I'll be the first to admit that's a long time. In fact, I don't know of too many people being in this ministry for that length of time. This isn't a ministry known for longevity. I know of many that started when we began and within a few short years drifted on to other things. Why do I continue? Quite simply, my answer is found in the words of David. "So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering his glorious miracles and obeying his commands." Psalms 78:7 (New Living...

Prepare for What God has Already Prepared for You!
It's time for me to stand, place my right hand upon the Bible, raise my left hand into the air, and tell the honest to goodness truth. Ready? Here goes. By and large, Christians are one weird group of people. I feel better now that I've made that confession. At times, I just don't understand their logic (if they have any). It causes me to wonder if at their birth, their mother hit them with the stupid stick. I'll speak about children's ministry leaders to provide an example. They know that their children need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit as recorded in the Book of Acts and yet...
Exploring the Heavenlies
This past week, Vickie and I took a couple days and went out of town for some much needed rest and relaxation. In doing so, we did something radical. We put aside being veteran Florida residents and joined the millions who come to Florida as tourists. You'd think that after living in Florida for almost 25 years that we would have seen all of the Florida's sights. Nope! And so, we invested the time to become tourists and made the 4 1/2 hour drive from Lake Worth down to the southernmost point in the continental United States, Key West. If you've never been to Key West, let me tell you...
Can Children Be Used of God?
Several years ago, I had the privilege of being invited to speak to the children's ministry leaders at Abba's House in Chattanooga, Tennessee. After teaching the Saturday afternoon sessions, the nursery director approached me and told me the following story. One of the nursery director's staff told an amazing story about her three-year-old daughter. The mother told about her little girl noticing that she was sick and asking about what was wrong. After explaining that she wasn't feeling good, her daughter asked if she could pray for her mother. The little girl then prayed a simple,...
What is the Most Powerful Ministry in the Church? (Get Ready for a Surprise!)
I know that after reading the next sentence some of you will be persuaded that I have totally lost my mind, but I'll share it anyways. Here goes ... I believe that one of, if not the most important, powerful ministries in any church is the nursery ministry. I know that you have your mind racing trying to be one step ahead of me. Some of you are thinking, yes it is because it removes the baby's noise and restlessness from the main auditorium so that adults can worship without distractions. Well, that might be 10% of the reason. Others might be thinking that I made this statement because the...
