Unpacking Parakletos
It's true confession time ... I hate to clean out my clothes closet. It's a task that should be an annual event but usually turns into a dreaded undertaking only accomplished whenever I can finally muster up the courage. Why? It's while doing this job that I have to come to terms with reality. Reality is that I have to part with a favorite shirt that is too faded or has too many holes or rips. Then there's also the ultimate "oh-no" factor. I have to try on clothes to see if they "shrunk" while hanging in my closet. This cleaning out the closet process forces me to admit that I can't squeeze...
Let’s Catch a Thief!
According to Dictionary.com, the definition of the word rob is: 1. to take something from (someone) by unlawful force or threat of violence; steal from 2. to deprive (someone) so some right or something legally due 3. to plunder or rifle (a house, shop, etc.) 4. to deprive of something unjustly or injuriously Here's an ALL POINTS BULLETIN that is possibly being broadcasted throughout the heavenlies about a robbery going on in our city. To be more accurate, the ALL POINTS BULLETIN is saying that the robbery is being committed week after week in our churches. To zero in even further, it is...
Want to Change His Promise into a TODAY Reality?
The other morning, I was sitting in my office meditating on the prophecy found in Joel, a prophecy that I've read a few hundred times. I know that you know this passage by heart. But, I'd ask you to read it one more time .... “Then after I have poured out my rains again, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. In those days, I will pour out my Spirit even on servants, men and women alike." Joel 2:28-29 (New Living Translation) While meditating on the verse, I sensed the Holy Spirit tell...
Say Y-E-S!!!
You may not believe this, but at one time in my life, I was a smart-mouthed teenager. And, as with most teenagers, from time-to-time I would disengage my brain and my mouth would invariably get me into trouble. I'll be honest ... it happened more times than I'd like to admit. I'll never forget one occasion when my stupidity got the best of me and, after I had made some flippant remark a ninth-grade teacher looked me square in the face and said, "Don't cha' evva', evva' do that again." (The spelling is typed exactly like she said it to me.) And, you can rest assured that I nevva' evva' did...
Ready for the GREATER Works?
Just a quick thought to meditate upon ... if Jesus did absolutely NO ministry before being filled with the Holy Spirit, why would you and I dare to do God's work without first following His example? The scriptures tell us that Jesus declared that He did NO ministry on His own (John 5:19), received His guidance from the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:1), and knew the Source of His anointing to minister (Luke 4:18-19). Without question, being filled with God's Spirit was the launching pad into Jesus' supernatural ministry. With that in mind, it is easy to see why Jesus just before His ascension commanded...
