Want a Powerful Ministry?
If I were to write a how-to manual for those wanting to be in the ministry, I believe that I could squeeze what would have taken me hundreds of pages to share into this powerful two sentence counsel given by a man mightily used of God, John G. Lake ... "I want to talk with the utmost frankness, and say to you, that tongues have been to me the making of my ministry. It is that peculiar communication with God when God reveals to my soul the truth I utter to you day by day in my ministry." (Taken from "John G. Lake: His Life, His Sermons, His Bold Faith") Need I say more?
Have To or Get To?
I've often had people ask, "Do I have to speak in other tongues when I am baptized in the Holy Spirit?". My answer is always, "No. It's not a have to. It's a get to." Why is it a get to? Speaking in other tongues gives us the extraordinary privilege to get to communicate with the Father in a supernatural way and, in doing so, we get to enjoy many enormous benefits. If for no other reason, I'd enjoy the get to for this one benefit ... When the busyness of life happens (and it does often) causing you to feel overwhelmed and acknowledge that your get up and go has got up and gone, you get to...
What If …
Here are a few random questions to ponder. What if ... Instead of posting notices at their building entrances telling of video surveillance, churches would post notices telling that the Holy Ghost that knew the actions of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5) is doing surveillance? Instead of posting "Traditional Service" and "Contemporary Service" on the marquees, churches would post "100%, Unrestrained, You-Never-Know-What's-Happening-Next Holy Ghost Service"? Instead of impatiently racing to pick up their children after the "real" church is over, parents joined in on the children's altar service...
Slime & Shaving Cream – Keys to the Supernatural?
If you've followed this blog post for any length of time, you know that I'm one million percent dedicated to raising up and equipping children's/student ministry leaders to usher in a last day outpouring of God's Spirit. With that in mind, after reading the blog title you might be thinking that I've strayed from my assignment. I guarantee that this blog post is right on target. Whether you want to own up to it or not, summer is almost here. Kids are out of school. To them, the days are already becoming long and boring. No friends and nothing much to do. This combination is the perfect...
Jesus Removed the Wiggle Room!
One of the best parenting tips that I heard my pastor B.B. Hankins share years ago was to never prove to your child your ability to count. By that, he meant, never say to your child, "I'm going to count to three and if you don't do what I've told you to do, you'll be sorry. You'll get a spanking." He then asked, "Why would you need to count? In acquiescing and adding a two and then a three, you've shown that your initial directive didn't matter. Make your first word your final word." In other words, don't allow wiggle room in what you are saying. In Acts 1, Jesus didn't mince words or allow...
