Comfortable?
We've all read and perhaps often quoted the statement, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll have what you've always had." It's true. You and I know people who want to lose some major weight and yet they keep eating the same types and quantities of food and do the same amount of exercising (none) and yet believe that they will lose one, two, or three clothes sizes in the near future. People who lose weight get out of their comfort zone and begin to do things that are uncomfortable so that they can obtain their goal. If you want to see different results, you've got to do things...

The Ride of Your Life
Rather than share a lengthy thought, I felt prompted to re-announce something announced back in the Old Testament days and then restated by the Holy Spirit through the apostle Paul. "That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But we know these things because God has revealed them to us by his Spirit, and his Spirit searches out everything and shows us even God's deep secrets. No one can know what anyone else is really thinking except that person alone, and no one can know...

A Cry of Desperation
In a day where it is common to have dry-cleaner churches where you are in by 9 out by 10 and the people in the churches are time-conscious, self-conscious, or possibly unconscious, there is a cry across the land for one last move of God's Spirit. Dissatisfaction with the status quo is rising, sweeping across denominational and undenominational boundaries. Age boundaries are shattering as children, youth, and adults are longing for more of God's Spirit. There is a sound penetrating into the heavenlies for one more rain to flood our churches and people. Like blind Bartimaeus of days of old,...

What Translation of the Bible Are They Reading?
Many years ago, I heard the story of a group of pastors that were debating the merits of different Bible translations. One pastor told his peers that he always used the King James Version in his preaching because of its richness in conveying God's Word. Another pastor told the Amplified Translation was his favorite because it greatly enlarged the shades and meanings of various words in each verse. Another pastor stated that he loved to preach from the Living Translation because of its fluidity and ease. The discussion continued for some time until there came a voice from a young lady that...
Why Children’s Ministry?
Vickie and I are days away from celebrating our 35th anniversary of being in children's ministry. I'll be the first to admit that's a long time. In fact, I don't know of too many people being in this ministry for that length of time. This isn't a ministry known for longevity. I know of many that started when we began and within a few short years drifted on to other things. Why do I continue? Quite simply, my answer is found in the words of David. "So each generation can set its hope anew on God, remembering his glorious miracles and obeying his commands." Psalms 78:7 (New Living...
