I Double-Dog Dare You
Let me tell you up front that you will need to be seated before you read the next sentence. Here it is ... "Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the action of His power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]." Ephesians 3:20 (The Amplified Translation) I absolutely love this verse because it reminds me that God is able to do far above anything that my peanut-sized brain can dream or imagine. No prayer that I can pray...
Here’s My Secret!
Can I let you in on a personal secret? I'll tell you the secret only if you promise that you will not keep it a secret and will tell everyone that you know. Here it is ... even if I HATED kids (which, believe me, I don't) I would still want to be a vital, faithful part of the children's ministry in a local church. No, you don't have to reread that last sentence to see if you really read what I wrote. You read it correctly. I'd literally put up a fight to be a part of a children's ministry. It would take some big, over-sized, whamma-jamma men to keep me out. And here's why ... I believe in...
Only Believe
Here's a simple truth to ponder on for the next few days. I'll be up front and tell you that this thought didn't originate with me. It's source is Jesus. Here's the truth .... "These signs will follow those who believe ...." I don't even need to complete the thought. You've read it umpteen million times and can possibly even quote it. For those looking for this thought, it is found in Mark 16:17-18. This simple truth gets simpler ... If it is still the day of believers (and evidently it is if you profess to be born again) then it must still be the day of signs and wonders. That means...
Start a Fire!
Here's a confession ... I'm getting more and more disillusioned with the "business" of the ministry. My email box constantly receives promotional materials for the "how-to's" of ministry ... how to grow a church, shut the back door, gain more volunteers, keep visitors, discover the "WOW" factor, increase the finances, etc. Enough already. I'm suffocating. And, in the midst of the deluge of "how to's", I never, I repeat NEVER, receive emails encouraging me to turn off the computer, NOT attend their conference or buy their book, or stay away from their $500 DVD teaching package and instead go...
Ponderables About Parents
You would think that after being in children's ministries for 35 years that I would have all of the answers. Honestly, I don't. Here are some random thoughts that I occasionally ponder ... * As the parents pick up their child after my service, why isn't their first question to the child, "What did the Holy Spirit tell you today?" Isn't this what children's "ministry" is all about? I have yet to find a church that calls their Sunday children's corporate gathering "Children's Fun House" or "Fun Zone". No!!! It is MINISTRY! * Why do parents allow their child to miss a weekend service or...
