Is Something Missing?

Just a quick passing note for those desiring to be people of the Spirit ... We all know that Paul wrote his first letter to the Corinthians to both instruct and correct the Corinthian saints and "ain'ts" about the workings of the Holy Spirit. Isn't it interesting that between the lengthy 12th and 14th chapters, Paul sandwiches in a profound teaching on love in the 13th chapter?  Among all of his corrections/teachings to the Corinthian Pentecostals/Charismatics dealing with the "here's what I have" and "here's who I am" and "here's what I can do" found in chapters 12 and 14, Paul told them to...

Turbo-Charged Worship

Let me let you in on a truth that apparently has been lost or is being largely ignored today. One of the greatest benefits of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues is the privilege of singing/worshiping in the Spirit. It's true. Rarely, if ever, will you see leadership in today's church encourage the congregation to corporately enter into a time of singing in the Spirit. Rarely, if ever, will you hear Pastors teach their people to make this a part of their daily discipline in their walk of the Spirit. And, if it is true with the adult congregation, we...

Pile Some Rocks!

We have all heard the statements "Christianity is just one generation away from extinction" and "God doesn't have any grandchildren". It's true isn't it! It's quite possible for what we have deposited in us to end with our generation. Let me insure that this doesn't happen by offering a practical, much-needed thought to you as a parent and to those involved in the various children's/student ministries. To be honest, this thought isn't original with me. It was formulated by God and passed on to us through Joshua. Here's the thought ... tell and retell and reretell your personal story of what...

Who Are You?

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time that you as a leader shared with those who work alongside of you the core values of your ministry? And, when was the last time that you taught your core values to the children/students in your ministry?  Too often, we assume that those who have joined up to work with us and the children/students in our ministry know who we are and what we believe. But, in all reality, when pressed to list the core values that define who you and your ministry are, most children/students in your ministry and members of your team would fail miserably. Outside of...

One of the Greatest Roadblocks to a Move of God

Here is a statement that probably isn't new to too many people. Today's move of the Holy Spirit will be unlike anything that we have ever seen before. It's new. It's fresh. It's uncharted. It's unpredictable. It's beyond anything that we can imagine or even fathom. It's so revolutionary that it will cause our peanut-size brains to go tilt, tilt, tilt. In anticipation of this move of God, let me offer some precautionary words written by one of my heroes, P.C. Nelson, taken from his book The Baptism in the Holy Spirit written back in 1942. "Throw away your preconceived ideas, and become as a...
