I absolutely, 100%, without exception know this to be a fact. When I am included in a photo taken of a group of people, the first thing (not the second or third thing) that I do when I am shown the picture is to mentally zoom in and search the picture for my three favorite people – me, myself, and I. That is exactly what I did when I saw this photo of my Aunt Oleta’s 101st birthday celebration last month. Now don’t go and get sanctimonious on me because you know that you do the very same thing, don’t you! We all want to see what I call “the me in the we”!
This “the me in the we” is a powerful truth to consider when thinking about the subject of divine healing.
First, we learn about the “we” part of divine healing in this scripture.
“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:4-5
Did you count the number of times that the words our and we appeared in this beautiful group picture found in Isaiah’s prophecy? Millions and billions of people are in this photo.
Thankfully, our identity isn’t lost in the panoramic view of the multitudes. God’s Word zooms in to provide “the me in the we” with this scripture.
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” 1 Peter 2:24
You can see yourself, can’t you? Look at the picture again. Peter takes Isaiah’s picture of the masses (our and we) and zooms in to focus on you – “by whose stripes ye were healed”. Healing belongs to YOU.
Here’s one closing idea to keep “the me in the we” as a constant reminder that by His stripes YOU were healed.
1. Find a picture of yourself.
2. With a broad-tipped marker write the word “HEALED” in big, bold letters across the picture.
3. Frame this beautiful picture and hang it in a prominent place in your home.
