In just a couple of hours, Vickie and I are going to an event that I guarantee will bring out the little boy in me, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. I can already tell you that I’ll come back home later today with my voice being hoarse from my whooping and hollering as I watch the Texas cowboys showcase their skills at bull riding, bare back riding, barrel racing, and roping contests. I can’t put into words the excitement that I know that I will feel and express through my screams as I watch the cowboy mounted on the back of a bucking wild bull bolt out of the rodeo chute as the gate swings open. I know I’ll be seated on the edge of my seat for two hours full of anticipation knowing that something incredible and memorable is about to happen. And so, for the sake of keeping the love in our marriage, I’m publicly apologizing to Vickie now before we get to the rodeo for what I know I will be doing throughout the afternoon!
Here’s a fact for those involved in ministering to children and youth. Before we enter into our ministry opportunity each and every week, we can have the same excitement and sense of anticipation that I’m feeling at this exact moment as I look forward to my Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo trip. As we spend time praying in the Spirit and preparing for our time of ministry, the Holy Spirit can put such a spirit of anticipation inside of us that will cause us to want to change the date on our calendar and/or the hands on our watch so that we can be at the ministry event RIGHT NOW! Why be so full of anticipation? Because, I’m a believer and I know that Jesus said, “these signs shall follow them that believe”. I can know that I know that the Holy Spirit is up to something and I am anxiously waiting to see what He has planned. What’s going to happen? I don’t know. How’s it going to happen? I don’t know. When is it going to happen? I don’t know. But, I know that I know that it’s going to be incredible … if I will believe. I’m believing + I’m anticipating = Something incredible is about to happen!
Gotta’ go. I’m thinking about putting on some clown makeup and jump down into the rodeo arena and get close-up for the fun and action!
