If people only knew the importance of praying in other tongues … Wait! You’re making it happen as you share these illustrations. Here’s another easy-to-do, easy-to-understand illustration. Once again, I will give a brief, skeletal overview of the illustration. Then, with the Holy Spirit’s help, you can personalize the illustration to become a powerful teaching tool.
The Importance of Praying in Other Tongues
Part 12 – Create a New, Fresh Conversation with God
For this illustration, you will need a Bible and a handful of peanuts.
Cautionary Note: Be mindful that there are people who are highly allergic to peanuts. Before asking people to handle peanuts, make sure that allergies won’t present a problem.
Today, I want to be spectacular, amazing, bedazzling, and mind-blowing … enough said about me … But, I forewarn you, these next few minutes will be a great time to have your cellphones out and prepared to video what you are about to see. Why? Because I am spectacular, amazing, bedazzling, and mind-blowing … enough said about me.
I want to show you something that has never been seen before with the naked (or clothed) eye and will never ever be seen again. Are your cameras ready for the feat only made possible by someone that is spectacular, amazing, bedazzling, and mind-blowing? (Show a peanut and then take a bow.) Yep. You might say, “Peanut? What is so incredible about a peanut?” (Crack open the peanut shell, pull out the peanut, walk around the audience to show the peanut.) I just did everything that I promised. This peanut has never been seen before by any human being (or dog or cat or fish). And now, it will never ever be seen again. (Swallow the peanut and then take another bow.)
(Invite several people to join you on the platform. See cautionary note.) I want to take this one step further. I want to give each of you an opportunity to be spectacular, amazing, bedazzling, and mind-blowing. (Give each person a peanut.) Would you please open the peanut shell and show those in our audience something that has never been seen before and will never be seen again? (Your participants are to crack open the shell and display their peanut.) And, there’s one more thing to notice about these never before seen peanuts. No two peanuts are exactly the same. (Ask your assistants to eat their peanuts, take a bow, and return to their seats.)
This peanut (show peanut) gives the PERFECT way to share one of the reasons why I love to pray in other tongues. In Mark 16:17 in the Bible (show Bible) Jesus tells us that believers (people like you and me) will speak with NEW tongues as they communicate with God. In other words, this supernatural tongue or language is not the same o’, same o’ words and thoughts. It is not a learned or even heard before language. It’s NEW. It is heaven giving you the ability to speak a fresh, passionate, Spirit-enabled, unknown-to-you language that captures God’s attention. (1 Corinthians 14:2)
And, there’s one more incredible truth about this NEW tongue. Do you remember how that no two peanuts were exactly the same? This NEW tongue or prayer language was given by God just for you. It is your NEW tongue. No two NEW languages are exactly the same! The Holy Spirit custom-made this NEW tongue just for you!
