I know that you know this already, but I’ll go ahead and say it anyway. The Holy Spirit is AMAZING. Let me share a quick story that showcases and honors the AMAZING Holy Spirit.
Several years ago when Vickie and I were children’s pastors, I had a mother come to me after one of the weekend services. After waiting for a while to get to speak to me, she pulled me to the side and told me that she just wanted to take a minute of my time to thank me. When I heard those words, time wasn’t important. Suddenly, I had all of the time in the world to hear some kind words.
Here is the story that I heard that Sunday. According to this mother, our service last weekend had literally changed her daughter’s life. Immediately, my mind began to race. What was so spectacular about that particular service? (After all, aren’t they all amazing? Oops … did I really type that?) This puzzled me and so I asked her to be more specific about that service. She then told me that for some time, her daughter had been encountering reoccurring, terrifying dreams. Without exception, night after night, these nightmares caused this little girl to wake up trembling and crying from fear.
My mind began to race again. What did this have to do with last weekend’s service? I know that I know that I hadn’t preached anything that pertained to this little girl’s situation.
Here is what caused that mother to come to thank me. I learned that in that service that I said something that set her daughter free from those tormenting dreams. And, throughout the following week, this beautiful little girl had not experienced one single bad dream. Hallelujah!
Let me add this detail. To this day, I am clueless as to what those words might have been. They sure weren’t in the notes that I had written for that service. All that I know for sure is that the AMAZING Holy Spirit had me to say the right words in the right service for the right situation. In all probability, it might have been just a sentence or two that brought her daughter’s freedom. Whatever those words might have been, the Holy Spirit was 100% AMAZING.
Please believe me when I say that this isn’t a “praise Billy” story. I’m simply using this story to remind every Spirit-filled believers that the AMAZING Holy Spirit has many, many, many AMAZING “right words at the right time for the right situation” prepared for those who will learn to yield and be sensitive to His promptings. This might happen as we share a passing word to someone that we encounter on our daily walk around the neighborhood or a few sentences to the waitress at the restaurant. In many (most) instances, we will be totally oblivious to what the Holy Spirit is doing. But, the AMAZING Holy Spirit is fully aware of the AMAZING results. Captives are being set free, joy is coming to the downcast, and hope is being downloaded to those who have given up. AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING!
Thank God for the AMAZING Holy Spirit!
