After leading a men’s small group (FYI – it’s not a group of small men) a few weeks ago, I received a phone call on my drive back home from a phone number I didn’t recognize. While I rarely accept a call from someone not listed in my phone’s contacts, the caller identification on this call intrigued me. When I saw that the call purportedly was from the Counter Intelligence Agency for one of our military branches, I knew that I had to take the call. I was curious to learn if this government agency called to inform me that our government officially recognized that I was counter to intelligence.
Okay, enough of the almost funny humor. Here’s the rest of the story. In taking the phone call, I learned that I had been listed as a reference for an individual applying to advance in rank for his position in the Veteran’s Administration. The government agent called to ask for an in-person interview later in the afternoon to provide information for a higher security clearance for the applicant.
To make a long story short, as I was driving to meet the agent I prayed and told the Father that I would love to be His mouthpiece if anything needed to be said during the interview. You’re already ahead of me, aren’t you? I made myself available and He later responded during the interview with a prompting in my spirit. Clueless of anything about the agent and yet confident that the Holy Spirit had spoken, I obeyed and said what I sensed the Holy Spirit was telling me. No sermon was preached. I didn’t even say “verily, verily”. Honestly, within half of a dozen sentences, tears suddenly began to roll down the agent’s cheeks as the Holy Spirit-directed words unlocked the restraints of her heart and allowed God’s healing power to touch her needs.
Believe me when I write that I am not sharing this story to be deified. Remember, I’m just Billy, the guy who is extremely handsome, incredibly witty, and very humble (well, maybe one or two of those might be somewhat accurate). I felt impressed to share this story to emphasize the truth that the Holy Spirit LOVES to speak to and through people TODAY.
Consider this biblical example.
“…the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David…”
Acts 1:16 (NKJV)
Are you up on your feet jumping up and down with excitement? What happened in the aforementioned interview is a reminder that the Holy Spirit that spoke through David so many years ago STILL desires to speak through us today. It’s not weird. It’s not fanatical. No Twilight Zone music will play in the background. It’s 150,000% normal!
As I sat down at my computer today, I felt a prompting to challenge the blog readers to make room for the Holy Spirit. Make yourself available. Know that people will be strategically placed by the Father in your path ready to receive a word from heaven. That prompting might happen around a dinner (or, if you’re from Texas – a supper) table or as you are standing in Walmart’s eternally long checkout line.
To quote T.D. Jakes, “Get ready, get ready, get ready.” Lives WILL be set free. Salvations WILL happen. Healings WILL occur. Marriages WILL be restored. I’m prophesying that your availability and sensitivity will cause the Father to add the words “…the Holy Spirit spoke through the mouth of (YOUR NAME)…” over and over again into the ongoing Book of Acts as lives are set free. Yes, yes, yes!!!
