I will apologize upfront. I know that this blog post that you are about to read is super, super, super, super (should I continue?) simple. It’s simple and yet super, super, super, super (I really should continue) powerful and important.
It all started when I read this verse.
“And by the hands of the apostles were many signs
and wonders wrought among the people; (and
they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.”
Acts 5:12
When I read this verse, I heard the Holy Spirit ask me, “Got hands?”. Of course, my affirmative answer was easy to give. It was a no-brainer. I’ve got two of them. I then heard Him reply, “Then use them to demonstrate my power.”
Wait. Put a pause on your brain. I am one step ahead of you. I know that you are looking back at this verse and thinking that this demonstration of God’s power was exclusively for the apostles and epistles. (An epistle is an apostle’s wife. NOW STOP SHAKING YOUR HEAD AND ROLLING YOUR EYES IN DISBELIEF. The joke was too good to pass up.) Fess up. You know that you were thinking this.
Here is what Jesus said about the hands of a believer (that’s you).
“…they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”
Mark 16:18
Want more to think about? Consider this. Read Acts 9 and see who God sent to lay hands upon Saul so that he could receive his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. It wasn’t a pastor or an evangelist or an apostle or an epistle (I thought I would try it one more time). No title or office was assigned to Ananias. They weren’t needed because this believer named Ananias had hands.
Believer (that’s you), it is time for you to begin to use your hands to demonstrate God’s power. (Don’t look around. I’m talking to you.) Lay hands upon the sick and know that the sick will be healed. Lay hands upon those seeking to be baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues and know that they will be gloriously filled to overflowing with God’s Spirit. Lay hands upon those shackled by the chains of sin and know that freedom will come through the power of the Holy Spirit that flows through your hands. Lay hands upon those laden with weariness and know that supernatural life will flow into their body, mind, and spirit. Lay hands upon those overcome with mourning and sadness and know that joy will arise in their spirit.
Let me close with the super simple question that the Holy Spirit asked me. Got hands? The response and following actions are yours to give to the Holy Spirit.
