Recently, when Hurricane Ian threatened and then blasted through Florida, Vickie and I found ourselves without electricity for two days. Because of Ian, we were like the proverbial atheist when he died. We were all dressed up and had no place to go. (I know that you are rolling your eyes and shaking your head in disbelief at this attempt at humor.) We literally had nothing to do. Most of the businesses in our city were shut down due to the lack of power. Many streets were blocked by debris and fallen trees. Thankfully, this didn’t last too long.

During the blackout, I occupied much of my time reading on my iPad Maria Woodworth-Etter’s Signs and Wonders. For those unfamiliar with Woodworth-Etter, Maria was an evangelist in the late 1800s into the early 1900s with a ministry noted for her teaching, preaching, and powerful demonstrations of the Holy Spirit. Her ministry has been compared to that of Amie Semple McPherson and Kathryn Kuhlman.

I know that in all probability, few if any of you have read this Holy Spirit classic. Though it was written in 1916, Signs & Wonders tells of a timeless Holy Spirit. In reading the book, I often found myself saying, “Yes, Lord. Now, Lord. In and through me, Lord.”

The insights found in the book are just too good to keep to myself. Here are just a few powerful, powerful, powerful quotations from Signs & Wonders that I added to my Excel quotations file.

  • The working of the Holy Ghost is the visible sign of the presence of Jesus.
  • The Holy Ghost makes us levelheaded.
  • The Lord speaks of the Holy Ghost as a person as much as He would of one of the apostles.
  • Let the Holy Ghost work in any way that agrees with the Word of God.
  • The Holy Ghost will sing through us. He is training us to sing at the marriage supper of the Lamb.
  • The Holy Ghost works through our hands, through our bodies!

In closing, let me offer this suggestion. Do yourself a favor. Create a spreadsheet that will serve as a reminder of powerful, Holy Spirit-inspired truths gleaned while reading and listening to teachings online. You will find yourself coming back to these spiritual nuggets over and over again in the future! Here is a sample taken from my Excel spreadsheet.
