Here’s a simple truth to ponder for the next few days. I’ll be up front and tell you that this thought didn’t originate with me. Its source is Jesus. Here’s the truth — “These signs will follow those who believe ….” I don’t even need to complete the thought. You’ve read it countless times and can possibly even recite it from memory. For those looking for this thought, it is found in Mark 16:17-18.
Consider this — If it is still the day of believers (and evidently it is if you profess to be born again), according to Mark 16 it must still be the day of signs and wonders to operate in and through believers exactly like you. (You did see the word “you”, didn’t you?) In other words, these TODAY mighty works of God are supposed to be happening through TODAY believers like you.
Can I take this one step further? I love, love, love to remind people that God purposefully eliminated any source for confusion when He dedicated the Book of Acts to give example after example of what His Spirit is capable of and desiring to do through those who simply will believe and work together with the Holy Spirit. I love to say it this way. The Book of Acts is God’s YouTube Channel to display His desire and purpose for today’s Spirit-filled believers.
Let me close with the words of a song penned many years ago, words that remind us, “Only believe, only believe, all things are possible, only believe.” Dad and Mom, believe. Nursery worker, believe. Sunday school teacher, believe. Children’s church worker, believe. Youth pastor, believe. Pastor, believe. All things are possible; the signs will follow if you will only believe.
Thank you, Pastor Billy, I pray that pastors would preach these kinds of messages. The Body of Christ needs to hear it and “get it down in their spirit”. I have index cards with scriptures and quotes from men and women of God all over the place.
On my computer screen I have one and it says
(ONLY BELIEVE, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE TO THEM WHO BELIEVE).
Luke 8:50, Mark 5:36 & Mark 9:23.
Thank you.
Ron, don’t you love the words “will” and “shall”? It takes all of the guesswork out of God’s expectation for His children. It makes it so easy to believe God when He has written in His Word “These signs shall (will) follow those who believe”. It’s far above my pay grade to challenge His declaration! So, I just add amens to His expectations.
Be blessed my friend.
