06 Jul It’s Time to Ignite a Revolution!

A couple of weeks ago, I had the incredible privilege of officiating the wedding ceremony of our youngest son Aaron and his beautiful bride Kaity. It was a service that I will never forget. Vickie and I are so blessed. All three of our sons have married beautiful, godly ladies. It's every parent's dream come true!!! As I was preparing for the wedding, I recognized how weddings have changed over the years. One of the most noticeable changes is the absence of the phrase, "if there is anyone here who objects to this marriage, let them speak now or forever hold their peace." Do you remember hearing those words in a wedding? I honestly believe that it's a thing of the past. Back in the day, when the minister would say those words there would always be a dead silence and everyone would wait to see if there was an objection. Thankfully, everyone would be silent and, in doing so, they would be giving their blessing to what was going on. The reason that this blog exists and the reason that Vickie and I left the security of being the children's pastor at a great church in South Florida to travel full time and conduct our Ignite & Unite Conferences is to stir children and youth ministry leaders like you to speak up and loudly, passionately voice your objection to Spirit-less, cold, lifeless, powerless children's ministries and student ministries that are producing ineffective, anemic, timid children and youth across our land. We've been silent for far too long. Things are NOT okay. We object to what the future will hold if we continue to stand back in silence. Passivity and turning our heads the other way must be a thing of the past. It's time for revolutionists like you to start clearing their throats and begin to unashamedly, boldly use their voices to declare that WE OBJECT. ENOUGH. NO MORE. In this revolution, we will settle for nothing less than having children's/student ministries where the Holy Ghost is allowed to demonstrate His presence and power. TODAY is the day of the Holy Ghost. Nothing less will change a generation of children and nothing less will satisfy our passion. Sunday school teacher, speak up. Children's church leader/worker unwaveringly use your voice. Mid-week Bible club teacher, you can't be passive. Student ministry leader/worker, don't be denied. SPEAK UP. It's time to speak or forever hold your peace. Your voice must be heard in the heavenlies. It will launch the Holy Ghost into action. Hell needs hear your bold declarations. It will cause Satan's imps to cease and desist. Do me three favors. First, print and distribute this blog posting to those working alongside of you in your ministry. Second, forward this blog posting to all those working in children's/student ministries around the world. And last, please send a note to billy@billyburns.com and let me know that you are a Holy Ghost revolutionist....

29 Jun Have You Heard of a Weird, Wacky Holy Spirit?

Have you ever had some preconceived ideas about an individual only to discover when you actually met that person and got to know them that your ideas were completely wrong? We've all had that happen. I once took as gospel Mr. A's opinion of Mr. X and was hesitant to be around Mr. X. But, after just a few minutes of being with Mr. X, I found that my preconceived ideas were so, so wrong. In fact, I found the opposite to be true. It was a pure joy to be with this person. Then, a relationship began that is still going strong! I don't know what religious circles that you've associated with but there are folks out there who have some really weird, wacky ideas about the Holy Spirit. In fact, if I were to honor their ideology and opinions, I'd run from the Holy Spirit as fast as my fat little legs could carry me. But oh, if only they could spend just a short amount of time with the Holy Spirit that I know, they wouldn't be running from Him but rather to Him. In reading John 14-16, we find that while sitting around the table after eating a meal that we call the Last Supper (this shows that Jesus was from the South otherwise it would be called the Last Dinner) Jesus introduced the Holy Spirit to His disciples. The Holy Spirit wasn't Someone that Jesus casually knew or heard about. I won't take the time or space to elaborate about their relationship but will suffice it to say that from Genesis 1 onward throughout the Scriptures we see Jesus and the Holy Spirit working side-by-side. So, when Jesus told His disciples about the Holy Spirit, it was rock-solid, factual, I-know-Him knowledge. No hearsay or third-hand information was being shared about the Person that He wanted His followers to intimately know. My question for you today is, how do you know the Holy Spirit? Have you gained your knowledge from a person or a book or movie? Is your opinion of the Holy Spirit based upon someone else's dealings or supposed dealings with the Holy Spirit? I suggest that you connect with Him directly. Like the example shared earlier, you might find that the Holy Spirit is so different from the tainted opinion given by someone who in all probability has never actually met the Holy Spirit. Spend time with the Holy Spirit. Talk to Him. Listen to Him. You'll soon be regretting the time that you had without His companionship. Go ahead and start the conversation. He's waiting.  ...

15 Jun Looking for the ULTIMATE Ministry?

For our 25 years of being a Children's Pastor at Trinity Church International in Lake Worth, Florida, I did my very best to give special attention to each and every child each week. Often I would go home after the weekend's third and final service and tell Vickie that I didn't have a single hug left in me because I'd hugged literally hundreds of kids before and after the services. I told her that I didn't have many kisses left in me because I'd held and kissed many of the little babies on the top of their heads. While I loved my time of ministry from the platform, to me, the ultimate time of ministry was that one-on-one time each week. Those few seconds with the individual child transformed me from being just a preacher into a true biblical pastor (shepherd ...

10 Jun To God Be the Glory!

This week, Vickie and I are celebrating 36 years of ministry together. It all began with our first Kid's Crusade in Forest Hill, Louisiana with Mark and Trina Hankins the first week of June in 1979. Years later and many thousands of miles behind us, we look forward to many more years of together advancing the Kingdom....
