25 Sep How Important is the Anointing?

How important is the Holy Spirit's anointing? The answer is best given by a man who was a powerful theologian and educator, used mightily of God in healing crusades, and the founder of my alma mater Southwestern Assemblies of God University, P. C. Nelson. "Without this anointing it is possible to get up suppers and bazaars, rummage sales and entertainments, to give addresses on religious, moral, philanthropic, literary and current events, and other themes, but not to exercise a ministry even remotely comparable to that of Christ and His apostles." ~ P.C. Nelson "The Baptism in the Holy Spirit" Satan laughs at man's efforts and formulas but trembles when he sees a person walking in the Holy Spirit's anointing. It is the anointing's wonder-working power that destroys the yoke of bondage and sets the captive free. (Isaiah 10:27). Thank God that the "Spirit of the Lord is upon me ...

14 Aug Mystified About Praying in the Spirit?

To many, God's choice of speaking in other tongues as an initial physical evidence of the Holy Spirit's indwelling and also a continual source to empower believers to make a difference in this world remains a mystery. To these Jesus-loving believers, the supernatural aspect of speaking in other tongues is too much for their natural mind to wrap itself around. Consequently, many believers choose to ignore what they don't fully understand thus causing them to miss out on one of God's greatest gifts to believers. Some time ago, I came across a quote that I consider to be the perfect answer for those confused about praying in the Spirit. The pioneer British Assemblies of God pastor, educator, convention speaker, and author Donald Gee addressed this issue in this concise and insightful way: "It is difficult to conceive of any other sign so simple, so universally available, and yet so suggestive of the Holy Spirit's complete control of the whole of man's ransomed powers." ~ Donald Gee "The Phenomena of Pentecost" Can you see how this quote should eliminate any and all confusion about praying in other tongues? Gee is explaining that, in pouring out His Spirit upon mankind, God has provided a way for us to know that we know that we know (a sign) that the gift has been received, made this gift with the accompanying evidence available for every believer in every place in the world (universally available), AND allowed man to totally yield in a way never before possible (complete control of the whole of man's ransomed powers). Once this is understood, the mystery is solved, confusion will leave, questions will be cast to the side, the believer will ask the Father for this gift, and, like the apostle Paul, they will say to those around, "I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all." (1 Corinthians 14:18). Do the Church a favor. Let's eliminate this mystery by passing along this blog post to all who have questions about the validity and importance of praying in the Spirit. I know that they will thank you and thank you some more!  ...

21 Mar One of the Greatest Roadblocks to a Move of God

Here is a statement that probably isn't new to too many people. Today's move of the Holy Spirit will be unlike anything that we have ever seen before. It's new. It's fresh. It's uncharted. It's unpredictable. It's beyond anything that we can imagine or even fathom. It's so revolutionary that it will cause our peanut-size brains to go tilt, tilt, tilt. In anticipation of this move of God, let me offer some precautionary words written by one of my heroes, P.C. Nelson, taken from his book The Baptism in the Holy Spirit written back in 1942. "Throw away your preconceived ideas, and become as a little child. The Lord has more trouble with people's heads than He does with their hearts. They are too wise for Him, and He can teach them nothing till they come back to childhood again."  P.C. Nelson One of the greatest roadblocks to this move of God won't be the enemy Satan. It will be that massive conglomeration of cells between our ears, our brain. Our fear of the unknown or our desire for our previous experiences to dictate and control the future will shut down this move of God faster than we can spell the word "Mississippi" in Pig Latin. It's a new day with new opportunities. For us to participate in these new opportunities, there is a challenge coming from the Holy Spirit to cast aside our preconceived ideas and, like a little child, trust our Father. With child-like faith, grab ahold of His hand and allow our Father to lead us into an outpouring of His Spirit unlike anything that we've ever seen in this dispensation of the Holy Spirit....
